Pupils excel at the Summer Cup
Pupils from Greenfields Primary School competed in a sports event attended by Olympians and Commonwealth athletes including Denise Lewis OBE and Gabby Logan.
The David Ross Education Trust’s (DRET) Summer Cup held at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre, saw a number of the Trust’s academies compete for a chance to lift the David Ross Foundation trophy.
Pupils had to compete in a number of events including, indoor athletics, hockey and swimming. Former gymnast and TV presenter, Gabby Logan, was on hand throughout the day speaking to winners and commentating on some of the races.
Denise Lewis, former Olympic champion, commented: "I am so honoured to be part of this inspiring event. What’s great about the Summer Cup is that by bringing these academies together they have the opportunity to experience a high level of competition.”
After putting on a fantastic performance in the 34-degree heat, highlights for Greenfields included finishing 3rd in the hockey. The academy also exceled in the swimming events by finishing in 3rd place in the backstoke and 2nd in the girls breaststroke.
David Ross, Sponsor of the Trust, said: “The Summer Cup has been an incredible success and proves that this event just keeps getting bigger and better each year.
“Events like this are really important to us as they bring us together and really showcase the high level of talent and potential we have in our network. I am very proud of each and every one of the students that took part.”
