Earth Day 2024
This week, on Monday, Greenfields children joined with everyone else around the globe and spent an afternoon doing something in support of our wonderful Earth. Earth Day is celebrated on 22nd April every year.
All classes started with the question 'Who is winning? The planet or the plastics' when we found out some harrowing facts including the shocking fact that single use plastics are still being mass produced. Billions of plastic carrier bags were made last year alone! Most of them will end up in landfill or, even worse, in our seas and oceans.
Throughout the afternoon, children became plastic detectives, planted sunflower seeds, took on the role of trees and made bird feeders.
This week the children have also been learning about bees and their importance. Following this, Miss Kenny has been given three dying bees to save. So, he children quickly whipped together a sugar cure and our furry little friends flew away much happier.
Let's all 'Bee' kind to our environment.
