World Book Day at Greenfields
WOW! Thursday’s World Book Day was a phenomenal success!
Greenfields kicked off the day with an assembly led by Miss Mitchell and Mr Reid, where they heard a book snippet from every teacher so that they could choose what they wanted to read for 'choose and chill'. The children LOVED this! There are so many amazing books out there…'The Fart that changed the World' with Miss Mitchell, 'My Bum has a Crack in it' with Miss Kenny and also some more traditional choices like 'The Tiger who came to Tea' with Mrs Casey.
The children and staff dressed up or down, and in return brought in a book for the afternoon book swap shop! So exciting! Thank you so much for your support with this…the shop was full of yet more incredible books. How lucky are we? Just look at what the school has achieved with your help!
To end the day, children read their books and took home a £1 token.
Reading is such an incredible thing and as Mr Reid told the group in assembly, it can transport you to so many different places.
Ladybirds
For World Book Day Ladybirds got to explore different activities based around different books. There was a tea party with a tiger, exploring mark making with crayons, potion making just like the witch in 'Room on the Broom' and planting beans to find out if we could get to a magical kingdom in the sky.
Year Two
To celebrate World Book Day, in Year Two we read 'The Twits' by Roald Dahl and soon realised that Mr and Mrs Twit love playing tricks on each other! The children got to create their own tricks using all sorts of crazy things like spaghetti, shaving foam and smelly cheese! Miss Franklin even played her own trick on Miss Lucia involving some spaghetti, googly eyes and some very sour sweets!
Year One
For World Book Day 2024, Year One celebrated the books ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ with lots of fun activities. In the morning, the children had a fruit tasting session, made colourful butterflies and explored the life cycle of a caterpillar. In the afternoon, they went on a bear hunt in the playground! They had an amazing day sparking their love for books and storytelling.
